A cozy corner of the internet for one of the world's oldest card games.
Cribbage Den is a free online cribbage table where you can play the classic card game with friends, family, or a computer opponent — from any modern web browser or the native iOS app. Games support 2, 3, or 4 players (four-player games are played as partnerships), and players on different platforms can all sit at the same table together.
We built the Den because cribbage is at its best as a social game — the table talk, the groan when your opponent counts a 24 hand, the ritual of pegging around the board. Most online card games lose that. So we kept it: real-time play with live video chat on the web (voice chat on iOS), an animated cribbage board with pegs that actually race down the streets, and full match play with game counters, skunk lines, and all.
Cribbage was invented in the early 1600s, traditionally credited to the English poet Sir John Suckling, who adapted it from an older game called Noddy. It has been played essentially unchanged for four centuries — in pubs, on submarines (it's famously the unofficial game of the U.S. Navy's submarine force), and at countless kitchen tables. The distinctive wooden board with its rows of holes isn't just decoration: pegging your score is part of the game itself.
If you're new to the game, the short version: players are dealt six cards and discard two to the dealer's crib, then alternate playing cards toward a running count of 31, scoring points for pairs, runs, and fifteens along the way. Then each hand is counted, the crib is counted, and the first player to peg 121 points wins. Easy to learn, endlessly deep — and the Den enforces all the rules for you, so it's a great place to learn.
Every multiplayer game is refereed by our game server: it deals the cards, validates every play, and does all the counting. Nobody's browser gets to decide the score — including yours — so there's no way to miscount a hand or sneak an extra peg. Muggins is off; the computer counts everything, every time.
Playing against the computer is free for everyone, no account required. A free account lets you track your stats and climb the leaderboard. For unlimited online multiplayer, video chat at the table, and an ad-free experience, there's the optional Cribbage Club membership, which supports the ongoing development and server costs of the Den.
Cribbage Den is an independent project, built and run by a passionate individual cribbage lover — not a big game studio. It started as a way to keep a family cribbage rivalry going across state lines, and grew from there. We play as often as we can, and we ship improvements constantly based on what players tell us.
