Cribbage Den Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Cribbage Den ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Cribbage Den web app (cribbageden.com) and iOS app ("the Service").

1. Information We Collect

When you create an account or use the Service, we may collect:

Account information: username, email address, and a securely hashed password (we never store your plain-text password).
Google Sign-In information: if you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google as permitted by your Google account settings.
Profile details: optional first/last name and an avatar image you choose or upload.
Gameplay data: game and match history, scores, wins/losses, and statistics used for leaderboards and your profile.
Technical data: IP address and basic device/browser information, used for security, rate-limiting, and abuse prevention.

2. Video and Voice Chat

Cribbage Den supports optional peer-to-peer video and voice chat between players in a game, using WebRTC. Audio/video streams travel directly between players' devices whenever possible. If a direct connection cannot be established, a TURN relay server relays the encrypted media stream — it is not recorded, stored, or inspected by us at any point.

3. How We Use Your Information

To create and secure your account and authenticate sign-ins.
To operate gameplay features: matchmaking, scoring, leaderboards, and match history.
To send account-related emails (e.g., new-account approval notices).
To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or misuse of the Service (e.g., rate limiting).
To maintain and improve the Service.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:

With Google, when you use Google Sign-In, as governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
With Google, when the free tier shows you an ad — limited to what is needed to request and deliver one, such as your IP address and basic device or browser information. In our iOS app we request non-personalized ads only, so ads there are not based on your interests or browsing history. See section 5.
With other players in your game, limited to your username, avatar, and in-game statistics visible during normal gameplay.
When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Cribbage Den or its users.

5. Advertising & Cookies

The free tier of the Service may display advertisements. Cribbage Club members and Remove Ads purchasers do not see ads. How advertising works differs between our website and our iOS app, so the two are described separately below.

On this website, ads may be served by third-party vendors such as Google AdSense:

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at www.aboutads.info.

In our iOS app, ads are served by Google AdMob:

We request non-personalized ads only. Ads in the app are not based on your interests, your browsing history, or what you do in other apps.
The app never asks for permission to track you and does not use Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA).
Ads in the app may use Apple's SKAdNetwork, which lets advertisers measure app installs resulting from an ad without identifying you.

Beyond advertising, we use only essential cookies and local storage — to keep you signed in and to remember gameplay preferences. We do not use them to track you across other websites.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain account and gameplay data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time by contacting us at the email address below. We will process deletion requests within a reasonable time, except where retention is required for legal or security purposes.

7. Security

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and never stored in plain text. Authentication uses signed JSON Web Tokens. We apply rate limiting and other safeguards to protect accounts from unauthorized access.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
